Tea For To

11th June 2009

Don’t you just love it when you get an invitation to a tea party where there will be vegan cakes? Lucky for me one such invitation popped up in the To Happy Vegan inbox and so last night I planned my route, of course making sure I made the most of vegan establishments along the way.

Enter Mrs Marengo, a vegetarian cafe for some takeaway lunch to enjoy with a friend who works near Lush’s South Molton Street shop. I can’t believe I have never noticed it before since I have been to Mildred’s (their sister restaurant) a fair few times. They have lots of pretty cakes in the windows, unfortunately the vegan options for those are not as varied as the lunch menu, but no matter I had Lush for that! I did try to get some photos of said cakes but all you can really see is the road works in the reflection!

I picked my trusty Mildred’s favourite of mixed mushroom and porcini ale pie with mushy peas from the menu and a curried chickpea filled aubergine from the many delicious items on the counter.

The salads are also really good, they had 3 different vegan options and filled a little pot up with a bit of each for me. Lunch in hand I headed off to meet my friend (was greatly amused by a Japanese restaurant along the way) and as it was such a lovely day we decided to sit on the grass in Hanover Square.

Luckily for me I did not have to return to work so I wandered down to South Molton Street for Lush’s tea party. They were having a reopening after being closed for a make over, very snazzy.

More to the point there was also food!

And a free raffle which I entered, I’m still keeping my fingers crossed on that one! I stocked up on I Love Juicy and had a massive slice of very nice carrot cake, half of which I enjoyed after my dinner (it did get a little squished in transit but was still tasty!)  – thanks Lush!
