VIVA! Incredible Veggie Roadshow

8th February 2010

Our first vegan event of 2010 and what a cracking start to our journey around the country. We arrived a little late but thankfully we are pros at setting up now and managed it in the 30 mins before the doors openend (one handedly and with Baby on hip).

The Roadshow was very education focused, with talks throughout the day and lots of free tastings. The average split of visitors was 1/3 vegan, 1/3 vegetarian and 1/3 meat eating. It’s an amazing thing that VIVA is doing being a charity they don’t make any profit and do it all purely to raise awareness. We saw some familiar faces including the lovelies of Hempish who are rather partial to Sasha’s banana muffins and and some new lovelies like our fellow tweeter @veganmonkey who gave us some delicious Sweetbird butterscotch flavoured syrup to try in our coffee yum!

Our Etsy For Animals sponsored tombola also attracted a lot of interest. There are still prizes let over so we are rolling them over for our next festival and will donate these proceeds to the Cedar Hill Animal Sanctuary too.

Selling out with an hour to spare we retreated to Bristol and chez Sands. I had already told Sash to expect delicious things from our vegetarian hosts who always go vegan when I’m down, and they did not disappoint.

First on the menu were some vegan sweets from the local Indian deli, the first was a concoction of figs (which Sash is now trying to replicate – yay!). The second after some googling I’m pretty sure is kaju barfi made from cashew nuts, cardamom and sugar.

Dinner was Sosmix topped large flat mushrooms with a glass of vegan white and a side of trashy TV and then it was time for bed.

We were sent off on our way with a hearty multiseed bagel with Essential organic fair trade dark chocolate spread.

Thanks to VIVA!  and their amazing staff/volunteers and all the vegans of Bath and EFA, we can’t wait to come back for the Bristol Eco Veggie Fayre.

    • Oooh yes, the beautiful stuffed rabbit made from the pretty fabric? She attracted a lot of attention! Hopefully she will work her magic at the next festival and entice lots more people over! x
