The Grand Hotel, Eastbourne

25th September 2014

Last weekend I attended a team building offsite in what turned out to be the very sunny climes of Eastbourne. It was a lot of fun, I am lucky to work with a great group of people. But you don’t want to know about the people, bring on the food!

I wasn’t too nervous about being at the mercy of one venue, even with it being in Eastbourne. I seem to have mellowed in my vegan old age after all you’re not going to starve in a day and a half right?! I actually think The Grand Hotel did a pretty good job of catering for me all things considered.

My first meal was a couple of hours after arrival and as the weather was so good there was a barbecue outside by the pool, I totally felt like I was on holiday!

Not terribly exciting but did the job.

The following morning I was up pretty early so I attempted to walk to Beachy Head. It was a steep climb and I did run out of time, but there were lovely views and it was such a pretty walk along the beach at sunrise.

Back in time before the 5 hours (!!) of team presentations I helped myself to some cooked items from the breakfast buffet.

They remembered me at tea break with a flapjack and a brand I’d not heard of before.

First part of the day complete it was time for lunch which I thought was risotto, but actually turned out to be a kind of mashed potato tower.

Then it was time for the time building activity in which we were split into groups to make a 60 second advert. These were screened during dinner and we got to vote for our favourite actor, actress etc. Much hilarity ensued!

Photos of dinner are decidedly dodgy what with all the fancy Oscar awards evening lighting, but there was some yummy stuff in there.

Yeah for lentils! Not keen on the boiled cauliflower but the lentils in the middle there were really tasty.

I’m not quite sure what all the elements were but we’ll go with sorbet (of course) on top of a biscuitty thing, with a strawberry sauce.

(And yes our team did win an Oscar, for best concept!!).
