Bustaurant

29th January 2010

On very special occasions my meat eating Husband concedes to allow me to choose anywhere I want to go for dinner. On the 12th Anniversary of ‘us’ in November last year I chose the vegan bustaurant Rootmaster. I was very excited not only because I was going to get to eat dinner on a bus AND try out a new restaurant ,but also it’s not very often that I get my other half to go vegan.

It was a bit slow to start and we sat there for about 20mins before the waiter realised he’d given us the wrong menu. After selecting again from the right menu we decided on the meze platter to start. The bread which is baked on the bus was delicious as were all the selection of sides.

For main I went for the caramelized onion tart, it didn’t really taste of anything and the onions were more pickled than caramelised? Hubby went for the red lentil kofta which he said were ok (bearing in mind he normally thinks all the vegan food I eat looks and tastes like carpet).

Dessert we had fruit cumble and chocolate fondant. Now I make my own version of a molten lava cake which is pretty much the same thing, Hubby gives mine a 9/10 so I was probably only ever going to be disappointed, it just wasn’t gooey enough in the middle.

Presentation wise it all looked really good but I was really expecting something amazing, several fellow Tweeters have mentioned it’s their fav place or that they always visit it when they are in London. I was a bit gutted it didn’t live up to my expectations, also if you’re taking someone who isn’t vegan with you, you do really want it to blow their socks off. I have not given up on the bus yet though,  I will return with Sasha and this time go for the recommended dishes.

Aw thats so sad that the food wasnt as good as you’d hopes. I went there a couple of years ago with a big group of people (we too over the whole upper deck), even though it wasnt my party i was the only vegan there and we all absolutely loved it! although i did try to take my boyfriend there (meateater) quite recently and we were sat at a table for half an hour before anyone bothered to tell us that they werent serving the public that day. this was really frustrating as bf now refuses to ever go there again on principle!
