Food This Week

7th August 2010

You know it’s going to be a good week when someone asks you if you want to have a sundae for breakfast. Sash has bought an ice cream machine so not only is she testing out on me the cookies from Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar but now I am a guinea pig for vegan ice cream too!

Wednesday I visited the recently open Ping Pong Now perfect for lunching in the city, it’s a takeaway only so it was super quick. I went for a veggie basket and because they didn’t have my favourite vegetarian sticky rice (sad face) I  opted for the black bean rice pot. Not sticky so was a bit dry but was flavoured with coconut which was a nice surprise.

It looks like it’s been plucked out of the streets of Hong Kong or something, and has a nice big window where you can watch the little lady making all the dumplings by hand, she must be a very busy bee!

I also bought a couple of new things to try out from Holland Barrett. I don’t know why I thought I would enjoy a meatless pork pie, when I didn’t like them before I went vegan, it was horrible. It actually tasted like I was eating pure fat, nom, nom NOT! I have not tested the Tofutti cheese cake I also purchased as there’s been a bit of a ice cream overload this week. :)

Thursday night Sash and I had some time to kill before we went to a chocolate party hosted by Bellapinay at Movida so we thought we would fill our time with gym which would then lead to a well deserved dinner (more photos from Movida here).

It’s been a while since I had a Google to see if any new places had popped up, I was very happy to see there was Amico Bio an organic Italian which was also very close to us.

We shared some focaccia (which is the first thing we noticed in the window!) and olives to start and then Sash went for the aubergine with a delish onion and tomato salad and a side of really REALLY tasty pan fried potatoes flavoured with herbs and garlic (seriously I could have just had a whole plate of them).

I had the wholemeal risotto of the day which was pumpkin, the rice had a nice bite to it, but it didn’t really taste of much, after I’d seasoned with salt and pepper it was better but we both agreed it needed a bit more oomph.

We will definitely be going back as I’d love to try out one of the pasta dishes and I am curious about trying their seiten. The menu is very vegan friendly, we didn’t get to check out any of the desserts but maybe next time!

Yesterday’s lunch was a collaboration of my work colleagues – fresh runner beans from the garden supplied by one and then turned into a spicy curry by another our curry queen Lady V.
