I heart Carrie

Are you as green as green can be?  How can we measure our greenness?  Is it enough if we do more than the person who lives next door to us or should we be doing more?

Using energy efficient light bulbs, getting a train to work it is definitely a good start.  Taking you own carrier bags to the supermarket is expected these days.  Cooking and baking using organic & fair trade goods where possible is another step in the right direction. THV cakes uses recycled and degradable packaging because we choose to do what we can.  I am constantly switching lights & electrical goods off both in my house & in public places!!  Is this enough?

I am sitting here using electricity to run my laptop whilst I type this blog.  The tv is on and the washing machine has just finished. I drove my car today & had the oven on for hours today while I baked.  If it gets cold out I will put the heating on and none of these things are very green.  But they are all things I need, do & must have, aren’t they?  Oh yes and then there is my vice….

Decaf soya latte is my one vice in life and I am not ready to give it up yet – I buy it with a charity card and use a corn plastic biodegradable travel mug!

What’s right and what’s wrong?  Its all about balance, doing what you can, doing as much as you can but also living a normal life – don’t you think?

Then there is vintage clothing, it is all the rage, and it fits with green living.  I would love to shop for vintage clothes BUT it doesn’t suit my body type – ahhhh I have tried and failed!  Should that matter? I am sorry to be vain but it does.  Although some people who have seen me might not think that I do care about what I wear I do!  My style is all about “just got out of bed scruffy style”!!

Being vegan is pretty darn green too.  If only the non vegans would become vegan for one day per week.  No that would make a difference.

Then there are people who don’t do anything green.  Boy do I get frustrated when people don’t do what they can to be green.  How can someone not be using energy efficient light bulbs?  Its so easy they give these bulbs away and they are cheaper to run.  Or what about when individuals don’t recycle into a bin within a reasonable vicinity to themselves.  Gawd dam laziness!

So what’s the morale to my little rant.  Maybe if more of us more to be as green as we can imagine what we could achieve….
