Iron Cupcake London – Spice
3rd November 2009
Last night was a spicy cupcake affair. Sash and I both headed down to Moorgate to enter this months challenge. After registering we found us a nice little corner and watched the stream of contestants roll in and the cakes snake the entire length of the bar.
This week there was an amazing 33 entries and 110 attendees in total. Ms Cupcake didn’t let us down and so our little vegan selection plate actually looked quite substantial! Samantha the organiser mentioned that she was expecting a few more vegans that evening so even the cake labels now carry a discreet ‘V’ in the corner should they be vegan – making it even easier for those in the know to spot ^.~
I made the full 3 flavour allowance this time : Chocolate & Ginger, Apple & Cinnamon and Coconut & Mango Chutney.
The apple and cinnamon is the German apple cake from Colleen Patrick-Goudreau’s The Joy of Vegan Baking recipes for the other two are now sitting in the baking section.
Next months challenge will be on Monday the 7th of December and the theme is…CHRISTMAS! For more details and to see who won go to the offical website.

I really love your decorations that night but I didn’t manage to taste them
. I am so amazed how you can make time for 3 different cupcakes and have such splendid icing on them! I submitted a vegan cupcake entry too.Very challenging indeed as it was my first time making them but it has exposed me so much about good healthy food an great alternatives

OMG I actually remember seeing your cupcakes!! I can’t believe I missed out too, I even scrutinised the labels in case there was another sneaky ‘v’ in there (you did tell Samantha it was vegan right?)!!! I totally agree about there not being enough cakes for all the tasters, I think I am going to go mini size next time and make more.

Oh no we missed a vegan cupcake. We should keep spares for each other next time!
