Neil’s Yard (Covent Gdn) & Mildred’s (Soho), London
14 September 2009
Another lovely sunny day in September, time for a mooch into London and FOOD! First stop Covent Garden and Neil’s Yard, one of London’s best veggie/vegan hide aways.

Neil's Yard, Covent Gdn, London
I can’t remember how I discovered Neil’s Yard. I either stumbled across it one day on a mooch around Covent Garden or a friend took me there. If it was the later, I thank you! It is a yard with a small handful of shop, mostly eateries, a back rub place & Neil’s Yard remedies (possibly the original). My favourite food place is the salad bar, it serves good value vegan food which has a South American influence. They also serve a nice sweetcorn pizza.
Onwards to Mildred’s on Lexington Street in Soho. This is another cafe that I have visited for years, it was an Australian friend who first took me there when I was a veggie. Although there are tasty vegan options I do think of it as being a veggie cafe foremost. It is somewhere that I would take someone for their first veggie meal and be confident that they would find something to try. It has a nice atmosphere, good service & large portions. The menu stays the same and there are daily specials both of which include vegan meals or vegan options.
Today as usual I had a burger and gorgeous sweet potato fries, if you go you must try these. The burger changes daily and todays was chickpea and roasted red pepper, lovely. I had an apple and beetroot juice with it which is a new one for me, I like it. Nice and sweet.
I popped into wholefoods, Soho on the way home to pick up some buckwheat, a grain I am curious about but currently have no idea what to do with (suggestions are welcome!). I thought I might pick up a cheeky piece of vegan cake for dessert but no such joy, this range seems to have been stopped. Boo hoo.
