Last night I had the pleasure of taking someone new to Otto Pizza in Notting Hill, after attending the vegan tasting session I was eager to take my friends back there, even if the pizza I preferred didn’t make it to the menu.
Since there were two vegan options (hurrah!) we went for a half cashew cheese which is already on their regular menu, and the tofu cheese aubergine pizza.
The cashew cheese pizza is nice and spicey and loaded with sweetcorn, I’m not normally keen on caramlised onions but it does work with the other flavours on the pizza. The aubergine pizza had sundried tomatoes on it, which I don’t remember it having at the tasting so a welcomed extra and the tofu chese is lovely and creamy. Both the pizza’s are really different which when you’re used to having the norm pizza without cheese with different veggies slung on top is soooo appreciated. The base is also very different from anything I’ve ever had and is ‘crusty’ you would expect. I did find it quite salty the first time, this time not so much but perhaps that was the Peroni I had to wash it down with helping me out.
The only comments my friend had were that she could have done with some chilli oil to drizzle over the top to give it that finishing touch and cakes on the menu. They currently have ice creams and sorbets but we actually didn’t have room to try anything. A whole pizza and 2 beers came to £15 incl tip, I like that they also provide each table with water without request.
I am looking forwad to forthcoming vegan specials and if you’re a gluten freebie they are doing a free taste testing on the 17th of August. Contact them if you’re interested as there are limited places.
If you think you can come up with a winning pizza flavour, Pizza Express are currently running a competition to design your own pizza. Sash and I have both entered, with vegan creations of course, so get involved and it could become a regular on their menu (and win you £5,000 if that’s not incentive enough). Vegan pizza’s take over the world!
